Celebrations

This term we are learning about Celebrations. Here is our Brainstorm for what we could celebrate in Room 1.

We read a book about Grandpas birthday. Here is some writing that we did about what we would give  our Grandpa for his birthday.

 Verzhyn would give Grandpa a game 

 Terri would give Grandpa a scooter.

Dontay said, Happy Birthday Grandpa.

Continuing with our celebrations topic, We did some art that looks like birthday flags. Each child drew a picture on their flag and then were allowed to dye it any colours they wanted. Here are some pieces of our work.

Nature Writing

We went outside and looked for some natural things such as sticks, leaves, rocks and flowers. The kids had lots of fun trying to find things that they wanted to write about.






We then did some amazing writing about the things we found. Here is some amazing work from Jahna, I'olani and Elisiva.

Wai the Whale!

Wai the Whale came to our school to teach about water safety. She is a big killer whale and she taught about swimming with an adult and swimming between the flags when we are at the beach.

Stepping out with Constable Taina

Over the past 2 weeks we have been doing lots of learning with constable Taina. We walked across the road and we got to practise putting our seatbelt on in the Police car.
We had to pull lots of the seatbelt then not let it go. Then we had to make it click!

Garth can do his seatbelt all by himself!

Ralphina had to pull lots of seatbelt so it would reach.

Buddy time with Room 8

We made an Olympic ring chain with our buddy class to celebrate the Olympics!

BARK presentation

Today we had 2 ladies from BARK come and talk to us about how to keep safe around dogs.  She bought her dog Dyson and we heard him bark, he licked some of us, he smelt most of us and some of us got to pat him. We learnt lots of things and here are some of them:

Don't put your face near a dogs face- Lynch
I learnt about don't pat a dog on the head- Hoani
When you haven't met a dog you need to leave it alone- Ana Fifita
If a dog is eating food you have to leave him alone- Chicago
You have to pat a dog under his chin, chest or shoulder thats the best!- Leeanne
You have to pat a dogs shoulders- Ruby
Don't tease or annoy the dog- Danielle
Don't tease the dog because it is the dogs toy- Fereti
We pat the dog on the chest- Delontaye
A dog is not a toy, don't tease or annoy- Savannah
You have to stand like a tree and not move so that the dog won't chase you- Ralphina

Snag golf

Last term we did Snag golf! We loved it! We had to hold the golf club with 2 hands and we swung the club only and little bit and said "tick, tock."
 On our last lesson Coach set up lots of different tricky course that we had to complete.

Today we have learning about the letter j. We read a poem about the letter j and then found words that started with j and wrote them on our whiteboards. Moana found and copied lots of word that started with j.  Ka Pai Moana!

Today is Jahna's first day at school! She has had a great morning and has done a story about Matariki.

Values movie

ANZAC day

This week we have been learning lots about why we celebrate ANZAC day.

We have practised a poem about wearing the Poppy to remember the brave soldiers who fought in the war.

We have read books about the Dawn parades that people go to remember soldiers and we have made a wreath for our own school ANZAC ceremony.

Today we made ANZAC cookies and read a book about a girl who bakes her Dad some ANZAC cookies and sends them to him while he is at the war.

They were soo yummy!! 

Rylan's Writing

Today Rylan wrote a sentence all by himself! He sounded out the letters he could hear in the words and wrote them outside with chalk. He wrote I like dinosaurs. He was very proud of his sentence and so he should be! Ka pai Rylan what an awesome sentence! 

iPads in Room 1

Today we were very lucky and we started using iPads. We are going to use the iPads to help with our learning. Here are some pictures of our lesson today. We practised taking photos and then talked about what made our photos good and what we liked about them.

We loved using the iPads! We will keep you posted with all the cool stuff we are learning on our iPads.

In Room 1 today we made Easter Egg cards for somebody in our family! Check them out
